Institut der Feuerwehr Nordrhein‐Westfalen

The State Fire Institute North Rhine Westphalia (IdF) is the state’s central training facility for leading personnel and special tasks and is with more than 140 employees Germany’s largest fire service training institution. The institute offers a large variety of courses both for professional and volunteer fire fighters in public and industrial fire brigades. The focus of the institute is the qualification of leading personnel and the training of special skills. In addition, the institute has a mandate to train the crisis committees of the State Ministry of Interior, the regional governments and of the counties and cities within the state. Furthermore, the final exams of all German future fire service staff officers take place at the institute. Another service provided by the institute is the technical competence center, which is dedicated to the technical inspection of vehicles and other engine operated equipment in use at the fire brigades.

Role in the project

IdF will bring the perspective of practitioners in civil protection. It will provide expertise in civil protection and crisis management, especially in command and control systems. IdF has a profound knowledge of the German market in IT systems in Situational Awareness (SA). IdF will provide its requirements for SA systems, expertise and feedback all  along the definition of the specifications of the targeted SA systems and roadmap for their future developments.
